UFC heavyweight fighter Ben Sosoli thrown in jail for punching drunk man outside a bar
UFC heavyweight fighter Ben Sosoli could spend up to 22 months in jail after he punched a drunk man outside a bar in Melbourne last September.
Sosoli, 30, was working as a bouncer at Jacksons Lounge Bar when he punched the civilian because he tried to sneak in twice after being refused entry for being too intoxicated. The man suffered a broken jaw as a result and had to undergo surgery.
In his defense, Sosoli stated that the drunk man had been “threatening to f*ck him up” but the judge hearing the case responded by saying, “You are expected not to respond to provocation in the way you did.”
Sosoli ultimately pleaded guilty to recklessly causing serious injury and must serve 11 months of his 22-month sentence before he becomes eligible for parole, according to the Australian Associated Press.
Sosoli last saw action inside the cage in February against Marcos Rogerio de Lima on the undercard of UFC Fight Night: Felder vs. Hooker where he lost in the first round via technical knockout. He has been cut from the UFC according to the report. – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
