Alex Eala advances to 3rd round of French Open Juniors
Alex Eala advanced to the third round of the 2020 Roland Garros girls’ singles competition after defeating Germany’s Mara Guth Tuesday morning.
The 15-year-old Filipino tennis star edged out the 17-year-old German 6-1, 5-7, and 6-4 in the second round.
Rains delayed the match but Eala came out on top, securing a spot in another round of the competition.
Eala, currently 4th in the International Tennis Federation girls juniors rankings, is set to face Spain's Leyre Romero Gormaz.
The 15-year-old will also see action in doubles, pairing up with her 2019 US Open partner Elvina Kalieva of the United States.
In January this year, Eala won the Australia Open doubles title with her Indonesian partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho.
