Dana White on Khamzat Chimaev: ‘The guy is special’
UFC president Dana White is singing praises for Khamzat Chimaev after the latter won his third fight in the organization against Gerald Meerschaert on the undercard of UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Woodley last Sunday at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
It was Chimaev’s third appearance inside the octagon in just two months and it only took him 17 seconds to score a highlight-reel knockout over Meerschaert. The win also awarded the unbeaten prospect an added $50,000 for knockout of the night bonus.
“The guy is special. I've been this game my whole life I've never seen anything like him. He's special, he's different, he wants to fight again,” said White during the post-fight press conference.
“And he kept telling me leading up to this fight, 'You think I'm a wrestler? Wait till you see my hands.' He wasn't lying.”
Chimaev currently holds an MMA record of 9-0 and has finished all of his opponents by either stoppage or submission. According to White, Chimaev could be the most gifted prizefighter he has ever seen.
“I think when you're a fight fan a guy like this is the type of guy that you love to watch and follow and hate,” he stated.
“Whatever it might be, this guy is one of the most special fighters I've ever seen if not the most special guy that I've ever come across.” — BM, GMA News
