UFC Fight Night: Colby Covington dominates Tyron Woodley, wins by TKO in round 5


Former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington relied on his trademark relentless offense to defeat former UFC welterweight world champion Tyron Woodley in the main event of UFC Fight Night this Sunday.

Covington was quick to score a takedown after both fighters opened the first round with a few change exchange of strikes. The former UFC interim welterweight champion was relentless with his pressure as he also mixed his strikes with takedown attempts.

The former UFC welterweight world champion came alive and started throwing more after an accidental eye poke he received in round three. Covington, meanwhile, was still dictating the tempo with his pressure and by pinning Woodley to the fence.

Covington scored another takedown in round 4 that allowed him to unleash heavy punches that left Woodley bloodied on the mat. It was the most dominant round by Covington yet as the punch stats showed him outstriking his foe by113-2.

Woodley screamed in pain due to a rib injury while performing a guillotine choke in round 5 which ultimately ended the fight by way of technical knockout.

Covington made his case for a rematch with the reigning welterweight champ Kamaru Usman with the dominant performance. He improved his record to 16-2 while Woodley suffered his third straight loss and dropped to 19-6.

UFC veteran Donald Cerrone and Niko Price duked it out for three rounds in the co-main event. Price got the better of Cerrone but had to settle with a draw after he was deducted a point due to an accidental eye poke.

Khamzat Chimaev snatched the spotlight on the undercard after he scored yet another highlight-reel finish over Gerald Meerschaert. In his third fight in two months with the UFC, Chimaev dropped Meerschaert senseless to the mat with the first punch he landed prompting the referee to halt the contest just 17 seconds into the first round. — LA, GMA News
