Denice Zamboanga makes quick work of Watsapinya Kaewkhong to solidify contender status
Filipina mixed martial arts fighter Denice Zamboanga solidified her contender status following a first-round submission victory over Watsapinya Kaewkhong at ONE: A New Breed Wednesday night at a closed-door event in Bangkok, Thailand.
Zamboanga, who earned a shot at Angela Lee’s ONE women’s atomweight world title by defeating Mei Yamaguchi in her last fight, needed just one round to beat the hometown favorite.
Be it on their feet or on the ground, Zamboanga proved too much to handle for Kaewkhong as the latter had no answer to everything the Filipina did inside the ring.
After landing some strikes on top Zamboanga shifted to her ground game where she locked in an americana to force a tap from her opponent at the 1:28 mark of the very first round.
The win improved Zamboanga’s unblemished record to 8-0 while Kaewkhong lost her pro debut and dropped to 0-1. -- BAP, GMA News
