Filipino MMA fighter Drex Zamboanga wins ONE debut by putting Thai foe to sleep

Filipino mixed martial arts fighter Drex Zamboanga registered his first win on the big stage following a second-round submission victory over Detchadin Sornsirisuphathin at ONE: A New Breed on Friday at a closed-door event in Bangkok, Thailand.

Both fighters exchanged strikes right from the opening bell landing clean shots of their own. Zamboanga went to score a takedown after he caught a kick but the Thai was able to get the fight back on his feet rather quickly.

Zamboanga’s right hand found its mark as he also started to land his combinations in round two. Unable to keep up in the striking department, Sornsirisuphathin went for a takedown only to get outworked by the Filipino.

They got up and after a brief striking exchange then it was Zamboanga’s turn to take the contest to the mat. While on the ground, Zamboanga got hold of Sornsirisuphathin’s back and secured a rear-naked choke that put the Thai to sleep at the end of round two.

The impressive win improved Zamboanga’s record to 9-5 while Sornsirisuphathin fell to 8-6. – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
