UFC co-main event called off after Ovince St. Preux gets COVID-19

Ultimate Fighting Championship has taken another setback as the promotion had to cancel the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 15 this Sunday, August 23 (Philippine time) at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

Ovince St. Preux was scheduled to face Alonzo Menifield but the promotion decided to move the fight to September 5 after the former tested positive for COVID-19. The announcement was made by St. Preux’s management Knock Out Representation on fight day itself.

“For safety precautions the @003_OSP fight will be removed from the card tonight and reschedule for 9/5,” Knock Out Representation wrote on Twitter.

“He battled Covid previously and presented both + and - tests this week. He currently has no symptoms and his cornermen are all clear.”

St. Preux is the second fighter that was withdrawn from the card after testing positive for the virus.

Filipino-American MMA fighter Mark Striegl was scheduled to make his UFC debut against Timur Valiev on the undercard but was also pulled out of the event after he tested positive for the virus two days before the fight. —KG, GMA News
