Robert Whittaker will stay ready to face Israel Adesanya in a rematch

Former UFC middleweight world champion Robert Whittaker is ready to fight for the title again at a moment’s notice following his latest victory over Darren Till.

Whittaker and Till locked horns in the main event of UFC on ESPN 14 this past weekend at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi where the former won by unanimous decision.

And if there is one thing that the fight proved according to the Australian, it is that he is still a championship level fighter after losing to the current UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya.

“I’m ready for a championship fight right now. Whenever. Tomorrow. Last night. It doesn’t matter. I’m championship level,” said Whittaker.

“That’s just the level I’m at. I’m already ready for a championship title shot. That’s just me. Honestly, I am championship level. Everyone can see that. Everyone has always known that.”

Whittaker defended his then world title to the unbeaten Adesanya in the main event of UFC 243 last October where he lost by way of second-round knockout.

“I wasn’t myself last fight. I believe that. Not to take anything away [from Adesanya], he’s a great striker, but I wasn’t myself last fight. I think this is a good win,” he explained.

“I’m a champion without the belt, with the belt, doesn’t matter. It is what it is. I’m looking forward to getting back to work and seeing how that next fight goes.”

Adesanya is reported to defend the UFC middleweight world title against Paulo Costa at UFC 253. And if for any reason the contender can’t fight, Whittaker says he will be ready to step in.

“I’ll be preparing around that time. If we can all get on the same card, that would be great. We would be ready. We’re always ready.” -- BAP, GMA News
