Jamie Lim capped a dream year with a gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games in karate.

The daughter of PBA legend Samboy Lim and former Pag-IBIG Fund CEO Darlene Berberabe broke down in tears during her medal ceremony on Monday, shortly after her victory.

Jamie made headlines this year after graduating summa cum laude from University of the Philippines Diliman. She followed that up with a victory in the Turkey Karate Championship.

In a report on 24 Oras by Dano Tingcungco on 24 Oras on Tuesday, Jamie revealed that she stopped practicing karate for four years to concentrate on academics. The sport, however, was always in her heart, hence her emotional reaction to victory.

For her part, Darlene said Samboy, who has been bed-ridden since suffering from a heart attack in 2014, has always been Jamie's inspiration when it comes to sports. —JST, GMA News
