Olympics-bound Obiena secures gold, sets new record in pole vault

Athletics star EJ Obiena secured the gold medal in men's pole vault at the Southeast Asian Games on Saturday at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium.

Obiena, who will compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, cleared the 5.45m mark to set a new SEA Games record.

Porranot Purahong of Thailand, who held the previous record of 5.35m, clinched the silver after clearing 5.20m. Malaysia's Iskandar Alwi cleared 5.00m for the bronze.
