Philippines continues winning ways on Day 3 of SEA Games
A gold rush in wushu, more wins in arnis, and the brilliance of Carlos Yulo carried the day for the Philippines in the third official day of competition in the Southeast Asian Games.

The effects of Typhoon Tisoy was felt heavily with the cancellation of several events, but it did not put a damper on the competitive fire of the athletes who saw action on Tuesday, as the home team pushed its total to 47 gold medals, 26 silvers, and 16 bronzes.
Agatha Wong started the day off right by winning her second gold medal in wushu. In the afternoon, sanda fighters Divine Wally (women's 48kg), Jesse Aligaga (men's 48kg) Arnel Mandal (men's 52kg), Francisco Solis (men's 56kg), and Clemente Tagubara Jr. (men's 65kg) dominated the competition for gold. Fred Padua (men's 60kg) also secured a silver for the Philippine wushu squad.
The Philippines' excellence in arnis continued, with Crisamuel Delfin ruling the non-traditional men's anyo and Mary Allin Aldeguer getting gold in the women's side. Mark David Puzon and Ryssa Jezzel Sanchez each secured a silver in their respective traditional open weapon events. Overall, the arnis squad gave the Philippines a total of 14 of a possible 20 gold medals.
Carlos Yulo once again thrilled his hometown fans as he took the mat at Rizal Memorial Coliseum. He handily won his pet even, the men's floor exercise, before coming in second in the men's pommel horse and men's still rings events. Overall, he has won two gold medals and two silver medals in these Games.

There was some heartbreak too, as Elreen Ann Ando missed out on a surefire gold in women's 65kg weightlifting after confusion with the order, settling for the silver medal instead. Margaret Colonia (women's 59kg) also scored a silver, while Nestor Colonia (men's 67kg) won a bronze.
In fencing, Christian Concepcion won the silver in men's individual fencing, while Samantha Catantan won the bronze in women's foil.

Robert Andrew Garcia bagged the silver in men's individual squad, while women's counterpart Jemyca Aribado settled for the bronze.
Late in the day, the Philippine women's national volleyball team put up a gallant stand against Vietnam before faltering, 25-21, 23-25, 19-25, 25-20, 8-15, in its opener at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig. —JST, GMA News
