Blu Girls, Blu Boys dominate opening games in SEA Games softball


 

The Philippine women's and men's softball teams began their respective quests in the 30th Southeast Asian Games on the winning track after defeating their opponents at the Villages in Clark, Pampanga Monday.

The Blu Girls opened their title-defense bid on a high note after crushing Singapore, 6-0.

"The girls played well today, especially in our defense. We're all confident we will be able to retain the gold medal in front of our countrymen," head coach Randy Dizer said.

The Blu Girls are the most dominant Philippine team in the biennial meet. They have won the gold medal in each of the nine SEA Games, where there has been a women's softball competition.

The Blu Girls have also had impressive campaigns in world-class softball tournaments. They garnered victories against top world teams such as Canada, Australia, Mexico, China and Chinese-Taipei.

In the men's division, the Blu Boys annihilated Thailand, 12-0, for a flying start in the biennial meet.

Head coach Apol Rosales said his wards played well in terms of defense, the reason for their win.

The Blu Boys are also well-known in the international landscape, participating in the Makassar open International Softball in Indonesia, Men's Softball Asian Championship and World Men's Softball Championship in Czech Republic. —Ma. Angelica Garcia/JST, GMA News
