Former UFC flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson has entered the finals of the ONE flyweight world grand prix following a unanimous decision victory over Japan's Tatsumitsu Wada at ONE: Dawn of Heroes Friday night.
Wada surprisingly held his own in the opening round against Johnson. He took the fight to the mat, and even attempted to lock the former UFC world champion in a rear-naked choke.
It was more of the same in round two, but Johnson pushed the pace as he utilized his wrestling to score a takedown and do his work on the mat.
Johnson fought with urgency in round three as he mixed it up to score both on the ground and on his feet. Wada, meanwhile, stuck to his game plan but was visually tired.
All three judges saw the fight for Johnson, winning the fight via unanimous decision as he improved his record to 29-3. The win also advances him to the finals of ONE flyweight world grand prix where he will meet Danny Kingad of Team Lakay. —LDF, GMA News
