PWD students win in Palarong Pambansa 2019 swimming competition
Some students with disabilities have come out victorious during the 2019 Palarong Pambansa held in Davao City.
According to a report by Bam Alegre in Unang Balita on Wednesday, Edwin Villanueva is a consistent gold medalist for the National Capital Region.
Edwin said that despite his handicap, when he competes in swimming events, he feels like he's just like everybody else.
"Malaki po yung tulong niya kasi nagagawa mo yung mga bagay na nagagawa ng iba, katulad niyan parang proud sila na ginagawa mo yan kahit na may kapansanan," he said.
Another medalist, John Rey Bonoan, who hails from Basilan, said that he might have quit school because of financial troubles if not for swimming.
"Minsan wala akong pera, minsan di kami makabayad ng test, ngayon wala na kaming problema kasi scholar po," he said.
Another notable swimmer was 12-year-old Apple Cabayaran, who hails from Western Visayas.
Apple had beaten the record for fastest 200-meter freestyle at 2 minutes, 15 seconds and 76 milliseconds. —Jessica Bartolome/KBK, GMA News
