Danny Kingad will look for early KO against Senzo Ikeda

TOKYO - Danny Kingad of Baguio City's Team Lakay will look to end Senzo Ikeda's night early when they meet inside the cage on the undercard of ONE: A New Era on March 31 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.

Kingad, 23, last finished an opponent when he submitted his fellow Filipino Eugene Toquero in the very first round in 2016. He won 5 of his next 6 fights after that, but all of them went to the scorecards contrary to his liking.

"I know this bout against Ikeda is going to be a tough one. Geje [Eustaquio] told me to never let my fights go to the judges’ decision and to always look to finish," said Kingad.

"He knows my skills and capabilities very well, so his advice for me was to sharpen my finishing skills and end every match as quickly as I can."

The upcoming fight between Kingad and Ikeda will be in the quarter-finals of the ONE flyweight world grand prix. It is a tournament composed of 8 top flyweights in the world, including former UFC flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson.

The winner of the said tourney will be crowned as the grand prix champion, and will also have a guaranteed shot at Adriano Moraes' ONE flyweight world title.

Kingad plans to send a message to the rest of the flyweight division on fight night, and he aims to send the warning across at the expense of his Japanese foe.

"I’m not just going to wait for an opportunity to close the show. I’m going to make one. That’s why you never let it go to the scorecards," Kingad told. "I am going to be aggressive, and I’m going to look to stop my opponent early. This time, it’s not going to the hands of the judges." — BAP, GMA News
