2018 Asian Games gold medalist Margielyn Didal among Time’s 25 Most Influential Teens

Cebuana skateboader Margielyn Didal made it to the list of Time Magazine’s 25 most influential teens of 2018.

“This summer the 19 year old from Cebu City, Philippines won the gold medal in women’s street skateboarding competition at the Asian Games – and became a national hero in the process,” Time said.

Margielyn nabbed the 4th gold medal in the Asian Games for the Philippines, when she dominated the field with a top score of 30.4 points.

The daughter of a kwek-kwek vendor and a carpenter, Margielyn did not even have her own skateboard and her parents’ support when she started. “But they 100% support me now,” said the first Filipino skateboarder to get an invitation to the X Games.

Margielyn is also the first Filipino skateboarder to compete in the Street League Skateboarding by taking part in the SLS PRO Open in London, England.

Apart from Margielyn, French footballer Kylian Mpabbe, snowboarding queen Chloe Kim, and “Stranger Things” actress Millie Bobby Brown make the list.

Last year, Time included two Filipino teens in its annual list: 14-year-old Shibby de Guzman and then 19-year-old Bretman Rock.
