ONE featherweight and lightweight champion Martin Nguyen is hungry to make history and end Bibiano Fernandes' bantamweight reign when they meet inside the cage in the main event of 'ONE: Iron Will' on March 24 at Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
Nguyen, 29, is gunning for a third world title when he challenges Fernandes for the ONE bantamweight title.
Most remembered for his last fight when he knocked out Eduard Folayang to snatch the ONE lightweight title, Nguyen will be the first fighter in MMA history to hold three simultaneous titles in three weight classes should he emerge victorious come fight night.
"Bibiano Fernandes is an absolute legend in martial arts, and considered one of the best bantamweights in the world. It is an honor for me to test myself against him," said Nguyen.
"I’m working round the clock to give the performance of a lifetime. All my matches ended within the distance, and I plan to end this one early too. I’m definitely looking to finish."
Fernandes has reigned supreme in ONE Championship's stacked bantamweight division for years and has gone unbeaten since 2011.
Nguyen, however, says he has the tools to maintain his 100 percent finishing rate when he fights the Brazilian champion.
"I know Bibiano will be the best opponent I have ever faced, but I’m going to go in there and do my thing," Nguyen quipped. "I think I can catch him late and my youth and athleticism will be too much. It’s time to make history again." — BAP, GMA News
