Michael Martinez ends journey at Winter Olympics
Filipino figure skater Michael Martinez on Friday failed to qualify for the next round of the men's single skating in the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Martinez was ranked 28th out of 30 competitors who performed in the short program leg of the tournament at Gangneung Ice Arena in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Martinez needed to enter the top 24 for him to enter the free skating round on Saturday at the same arena.
However, his total score of 55.56 off a flawless performance to the tune of Emerald Tiger by Vanessa Mae only outlasted Felipe Montoya and Yaroslaw Paniot of Spain and Ukraine, respectively

The 21-year-old Olympian garnered a score of 26.04 for technical elements, 29.52 for unfactored program components, and zero deductions.
Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu topped the list with a total score of 111.68, followed by Javier Fernandez of Spain who had 107.58 points. — Joseph Tristan Roxas / AT, GMA News
