Malaysia's Ann Osman expecting fireworks vs. Pinay fighter April Osenio
KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian mixed martial arts star Ann Osman is expecting an action-packed contest when she battles April Osenio of Baguio City's Team Lakay on ONE Championship: Unbreakable Warriors, Friday night at Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Osman, 30, is coming off a submission victory over Haiat Youssef in July. Her second fight in just a couple of months, Osman says her training camp focused on maintaining her conditioning while having a different approach when it comes to devicing a game plan.
"Training was like a continuation with a different game plan because last July I fought against an Olympian wrestler," Osman (4-2) told GMA News Online.
"Now I'm facing April and she's strong with her striking so it's just a matter of switching game plans. It's great that we could bring the momentum of conditioning and training from the last fight camp to this fight camp."
Osenio, meanwhile, is coming off a submission victory herself against Natalie Hills this past April. Osman says the Filipina's strength lies on her striking, but also expects an improved ground game from Osenio.
"I'm sure she's well prepared, I'm sure she's doing her homework and I'm sure she's preparing for my takedowns because people know me for my grappling. We got to expect what my opponent expects. I know she might be ready for that so I've been training a lot on my striking as well," said Osman.
"As for April, her strength is definitely in her striking because she has a really strong Wushu background coming from Team Lakay. I see she's been improving in her grappling, but we're not so sure how far she has improved yet. I can't wait to see what's going to happen. Fans can definitely expect an exciting fight and a lot of MMA action. It's going to be fireworks." —JST, GMA News
