The 36 Filipino athletes that participated in the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, California are back in the Philippines.

The group brought a haul of 21 gold medals, 14 silver medals, and 24 bronze medals.

According to Special Olympics Philippines Inc. chairwoman Delia Ortega, this just shows that disabilities don't hamper anyone from competiting in sports.

The success of the Filipino athletes, she said, can be attributed to their training and hard work.

The Filipino contingent competed in powerlifting, rhythmic gymnastics, unified football, bowling, badminton, track and field, and aquatic sports.

Meanwhile, the athletes expressed joy at being able to bring back glory to the country.

The Special Olympics were held from July 25 to August 2. The next edition of the competition will be held in Mexico in 2019. —JST, GMA News
