PH drubs Kuwait to kick off campaign in AFC Women's Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers
The Philippines kicked off its campaign in the AFC Women's Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers on a high note with a 4-1 victory against Kuwait in Uzbekistan.
Katrina Guillou, who had two goals in the said match, made an early goal for the women's squad two minutes into the match.
The Philippines held the lead at halftime, 1-0, before surging in the second half.
Bella Flanigan doubled the country's lead early at the 17:58 mark, while Dionesa Tolentin made another one for the Philippines at the 13:05 mark.
Kuwait tried to salvage the match with its first goal with less than five minutes left in the second half, but Guillou sealed the victory for the Philippines later for the country's fourth goal.
According to the team's social media account, this is the country's highest winning margin in a high-profile international tournament since 5-2 against Malaysia in the 2007 Asian Indoor Games.
The Philippines will face host country Uzbekistan next on Monday.
The top two teams of all the four groups will advance to the AFC Women's Futsal Asian Cup in China, along with the best-ranked third place team. The Asian Cup will serve as a qualifying tourney for the inaugural FIFA Women's Futsal World Cup which will be hosted by the Philippines.
