PH futsal's Pinay 5 suffer loss to Vietnam
After three assignments, the Philippine women’s national futsal team continued its search for a breakthrough after suffering a 6-1 loss against Vietnam in the ASEAN Women’s Championship on Tuesday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Pinay 5, who debuted against Myanmar that resulted in a draw on Saturday, absorbed back-to-back lopsided defeats, first against world No. 6 Thailand and now at the hands of Vietnam for a 0-1-2 (win-draw-loss) record.
Pinay 5 forward Alisha del Campo slotted in a consolation goal in the 24th minute in the second half after seeing the home bets wind up scoreless in their previous game against the Thais.
The Philippines held off Vietnam in the first half to a lone goal only to concede five more in the ensuing half that saw K’Thua deliver a brace including the shot that determined the final count in the 31st minute.
The Vietnamese side picked up their third straight win which propelled them atop the standings with +13 goal difference (GD), while the Thais trail behind with a similar perfect record and +9 GD.
Though the Filipina booters won’t be able to finish as the table toppers, they remain in contention for at least a third place match.
In the earlier play, Indonesia bounced back in convincing style with a 7-0 victory against the cellar-dweller Myanmar.
The Indonesians are currently running in third place and have also assured themselves of a battle for third match after improving to 1-0-2 record.
The Philippines will vie for its first-ever win against Indonesia on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the same venue.,
