Hosting of FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup a 'magnificent' opportunity to show Filipinas' talent, says PFF

Philippine football PFF president John Gutierrez

For the Philippine Football Federation, the Philippines' hosting of the FIFA Women's Futsal World Cup in 2025 will be a 'magnificent' opportunity to show Filipinas' talent in the said sport.

Weeks ago, FIFA officials, headed by Director of FIFA Tournaments Jaime Yarza, visited the country as part of its preparations for the hosting of the Futsal World Cup.

"This is no small achievement. We are where other women around the world are dreaming of. We have to take advantage of this. We are again given a magnificent opportunity to showcase Filipina talent around the world. We have to spread the word," PFF president John Gutierrez said in a press conference last June 14.

The Philippines won the hosting bid against countries such as Brazil, Spain, and Italy.

Being the hosts, the country is already assured of a slot in the tournament and the PFF said it will look for the best talent for the World Cup.

Yarza, meanwhile, hopes the country's hosting will push forward women's sports in the country.

"This World Cup is not only the first ever World Cup which is prestigious in itself, but it also serves to continue the development and growth of women's sports in the country," said Yarza.

The PFF eyes around 16 months to prepare for the Futsal World Cup, giving the federation around September or November of 2025 for the tournament.

The local football body is also looking two venues for the tournament, one in Manila, and the other in a regional venue, although these are not set in stone yet.
