Filipinas rise to all-time high no. 38 in world rankings
The Philippine national women's football team Filipinas climbed to no. 38, the team's highest placing ever, in the FIFA women's world rankings released on Friday.
Previously, the women's team was at no. 44 in the rankings released last August.
The development came after the second round of the AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament, where the Philippines won against Chinese Taipei and Iran. However, they absorbed an 8-0 loss to Group A leader Australia which eventually advanced to the third round.
It has been a historic 2023 for the nationals after making their debut in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup and winning their first World Cup match against New Zealand. Last September, the Filipinas also made its first quarterfinals appearance in the Asian Games.
