Azkals draw with Indonesia, 1-1, in World Cup Qualifiers
The Philippine Azkals held Indonesia to a draw, 1-1, in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on Tuesday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
After being held goalless in a 2-0 loss to Vietnam last Thursday, Patrick Reichelt delivered the Philippines’ lone goal in front of a crowd of 9,880.
Alongside the many opportunities the national football team had in the first half, Reichelt made the first goal for the Philippines at the 23rd minute which they held until halftime, 1-0.
Things went heated in the second half, with Santi Rublico and Kevin Ingresso being given yellow cards after a tense moment with their opponent.
At the 69th minute, Saddil Ramdani delivered a goal for Indonesia which equalized the match.
Rublico almost had a goal late in the match but it hit only the top of the post before six minutes were added for extra time.
The Philippines will next face Iraq in the qualifiers on March 26 and 21, 2024. They will play again Indonesia and Vietnam on June 2024.
Only the top two teams from the group will advance to the third round of the World Cup Qualifiers and book slots for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
