Filipinas suffer 8-0 loss against Australia in Olympic qualifiers
The Philippine women's national football team Filipinas absorbed an 8-0 beating against world no. 11 Australia on Sunday in the second round of the 2024 AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament at the Perth Stadium in Australia.
Mary Fowler gave the early goal for the Matildas at the 15th minute mark, while Sam Kerr doubled their advantage after just four minutes.
Caitlin Foord made her first two goals at the 30th and 34th minute, while Kerr added another one to give the Australians a 5-0 lead at halftime.
The Australians opened the second half with another early goal from Kerr, while Foord scored her third goal at the 56th minute mark.
Clare Wheeler added another one at the 72' mark to keep Filipinas goalless.
With the win, Australia emerged on the top of Group A with two wins after getting their first against Iran.
The Filipinas, however, currently sits second in the group after its 4-1 victory against Chinese Taipei.
Only the top teams from the three groups and the best runner-up team will advance to the next round of the qualifiers.
The Filipinas will face Iran next on Wednesday.
