Asian Games 2023: Filipinas fall to Japan in quarters to wrap historic campaign

The Philippine national women's football team capped its historic campaign in the 19th Asian Games after falling to Japan, 8-1, in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Only Sarina Bolden was able to make a goal for the Filipinas at the 67th minute as Japan was already leading then with three goals from Momoko Tanikawa (penalty at 40'), Haruka Osawa (58'), and Remina Chiba (65'). 

Japan made five more goals afterwards with Mami Ueno making four of them at the 76' (penalty kick), 78', 81', and 90+1' marks of the match. Osawa put the cherry on top with another goal at 90+4'.

This is the Philippines' first quarterfinals appearance in women's football in the Asian Games. 

Prior to this, the Filipinas won over Hong Kong and Myanmar and fell to South Korea in the group stage matches.

Japan will face China in the semifinals, while the other bracket will see Uzbekistan going against North Korea.
