Playing against top teams in Women's World Cup is greatest learning experience for Filipinas, says Jessika Cowart
With two games already in the books for the Philippine national women's football team, Jessika Cowart said the group is learning a lot from playing on a big stage like the FIFA Women's World Cup.
The Filipinas fell to world no. 20 Switzerland, 2-0, but bounced back and claimed its historic first win against world no. 26 New Zealand, 1-0.
Prior to the World Cup proper, the team also had scrimmages against Sweden and world champions United States.
"It's been really exciting. I think international football is a different beast," said Cowart in their pre-match press conference on Saturday.
"We've come out here and played teams of much different caliber and that's been a great learning experience for us and overall, we're trying to soak every moment in."
However, the national team is not yet done as they will face world no. 12 Norway on Sunday. A win against Norway will assure them of a slot in the knockout stage.
For Cowart, their mindset will remain the same when they step on the pitch at Eden Park in Auckland.
"At the end of the day, it's just football," Cowart said.
"We've been playing this game our whole lives and we approach every game like that," she said, adding that the team has been more knowledgeable about themselves and their tactics.
The match against Norway will be played on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
