Katrina Guillou sees positives in Filipinas' Women's World Cup debut
Katrina Guillou came close to delivering the Philippine women's national football team's first goal at the 2023 FIFA World Cup.
But her shot near the penalty box at the 15th minute mark was called offside and the Filipinas eventually fell to Switzerland, 2-0, to kick off their campaign.
While the US-born Filipina forward would have wanted to bring home the victory for the Philippines, especially with the whole country throwing its support to them, there are some positives she could take away from the game.
"Yeah, I think we started off pretty strong, we made things pretty difficult for them, we were popping into spaces and covering a lot of the gaps. But unfortunately, we weren't able to get goals," Guillou said in the post-game interview.
"But for a first World Cup and debut game, there's a lot of things we can take into our next game."
Moving forward, though, Guillou expects for them to continue to improve with two more preliminary games against host New Zealand and Norway on July 25 and July 30 remaining.
"Definitely, we're looking to get on to the scoreboard this time. We definitely had some good moments."
Guillou also took the time to show love and appreciation to all the fans back home and those who flew to New Zealand to watch their games live.
"Just wanna say thank you for all the support they've been giving us. We really appreciate it. It felt like there's a 13th man on the field and that really inspired us. it really was able to keep us going."
