The Philippine national anthem plays at the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time

The Philippine women's national football team is competing on the world stage for the first time ever and the Filipinas made their debut on Friday against Switzerland at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Dunedin, New Zealand.

Before the game, the Philippine national anthem was played at the FIFA Women's World Cup for the very first time.

Before the tournament, Filipinas captain Hali Long spoke about how she would feel to hear Lupang Hinirang play on football's world stage.

"I get the chills. When I heard you say that, I felt this starstruck kind of thing," Long said.

"Just excitement. I have this ritual where when the other national anthem is playing, I really try to ground myself... I just give thanks to where I am, who I am with, all the hands that have helped, all the people there supporting us."

"By the time Lupang Hinirang comes on, I'm probably semi-emotional and the last four lines, I'm probably looking at my toes, letting the tears fall."
