Filipinas reveals 29-player provisional squad for Women's World Cup


The Philippine national women's football team revealed on Saturday a list of 29 players which would form the provisional squad for the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

According to a press release, Filipinas coach Alen Stajcic chose the names of the players, most of which will join the pre-World Cup training camp in Sydney.

From 29, the list will be trimmed down to 23 for the World Cup itself.

Co-captains Hali Long and Tahnai Annis bannered the list which include goalkeepers Kiara Fontanilla, Kaiya Jota, Olivia McDaniel, and Inna Palacios, and defenders Maya Alcantara, Alicia Barker, Angela Beard, Reina Bonta, Malea Cesar, Jessika Cowart, Sofia Harrison, and Dominique Randle.

Aside from Annis, midfielders in the squad include Ryley Bugay, Anicka Castañeda, Sara Eggesvik, Kaya Hawkinson, Eva Madarang, Jessica Miclat, Isabela Pasion, Quinley Quezada, and Jaclyn Sawicki.

Sarina Bolden, Isabella Flanigan, Carleigh Frilles, Katrina Guillou, Chandler McDaniel, and Meryll Serrano comprised the list of forwards.

The list came a day after the Filipinas recorded its program-high no. 46 in the FIFA Women's world rankings.

The Philippines will hold its group stage matches in New Zealand as they will also play Switzerland and Norway in the World Cup which will kick off on July 20.
