'Blue Lock' manga illustrator draws image to celebrate Japan's historic World Cup win vs. Germany

The illustrator of "Blue Lock," a football manga series, drew an image to celebrate Japan's historic win against Germany in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

On Twitter, Thursday, Yusuke Nomura shared a sketch of "Blue Lock protagonist Isagi Yoichi striking a fierce victory pose.

The photo included a text in Japanese, which translates to: "World Cup first match victory! Congratulations, Japan."

Japan's Samurai Blue pulled off a 2-1 upset over Germany's Die Mannschaft, the 2014 World Cup champion, on Wednesday in Qatar. The win is Japan's first ever victory over Germany.

According to a report from Anime News Network, Nomura previously collaborated with the World Cup to draw "Blue Lock" characters wearing Samurai Blue's uniform.

Masaya Tsunamoto, creator of football manga "Giant Killing," also participated in the collaboration.

"Blue Lock" is written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and first released in 2018. It was adapted into an anime series that is currently streaming on Netflix.
