Filipinos celebrate as PH women's football team books first FIFA Women's World Cup appearance


Athletes and personalities are one in celebrating the Philippines' first-ever qualification to the FIFA Women's World Cup.

On Sunday, the Philippine national women's football team defeated Chinese Taipei on penalties, 4-3, in the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup quarterfinals to book a slot in football's biggest stage.

Their male counterparts in the Philippine Azkals took to Twitter their congratulatory messages.

"Wow! Wow! Wow! World Cup. Incredible girls! What an achievement, HISTORY," said Patrick Reichelt.

 

 

Azkals captain Stephan Schrock also congratulated the women's team.

 

 

Philippine football club Kaya FC also congratulated the national team for making history.

Among the other prominent personalities who celebrated the historic moment were musician Rico Blanco as well as GMA News and Public Affairs anchor Atom Araullo.

 

 

 

 

The terms World Cup and hashtag 'Laban Filipinas' also made it to Philippine Twitter's top trending list.

 


With the victory, the Philippines for the first time will officially send a team to any edition of the FIFA World Cup.
