Kaya FC beats Azkals Development Team, reigns supreme in 2021 Copa Paulino Alcantara
Kaya FC-Iloilo capped off a flawless campaign after beating the young Azkals Development Team (ADT), 1-0, to win the 2021 Copa Paulino Alcantara title on Friday at the PFF Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
Following a scoreless first half for both squads, winger Kenshiro Daniels converted the breakthrough goal in the 47th minute off an assist from Simone Rota as Kaya established a 1-0 lead.
The ADT, who are coming off a 9-0 victory over Mendiola, could not come up with an equalizer as Kaya clinched the championship.
The win sealed a spotless run for Kaya, which swept its games in the preliminary round against ADT, 2-0, and Mendiola FC 1991, 6-0.
The Yu Hoshide-mentored club also blanked the debuting Dynamic Herb Cebu in their semifinal clash, 1-0, with team captain Jovin Bedic scoring the lone goal.
Kaya's latest victory came more than a year after its bridesmaid finish in the 2020 Philippines Football League (PFL) where United City FC came out on top. It also gave the club the Copa title for the first time since 2018, where it defeated Davao Aguilas.
