PH Malditas beat Hong Kong to qualify for Women's Asian Cup
The Philippine national women's football team has officially booked its ticket for the 2022 AFC Women's Asia Cup after a sweep of the qualifiers on Friday night (Manila time).
The Malditas edged Hong Kong, 2-1, to wrap up a two-game campaign that started out with a dazzling victory over Nepal last September 18.
Against Hong Kong, Tahnai Annis was once again on target, scoring a breakthrough goal in the 17th minute off a cross pass from Rocelle Mendano as the Filipinas sustained their defense to stop the opposing camp from scoring in the first half.
Hong Kong's Chung Pui Ki, however, was successful in her free kick to equalize the match in the 61st minute.
Chandler McDaniel converted another goal for the Philippines in the 87th minute, 2-1, giving the country its second-straight appearance in the prestigious tournament set to be held in India.
Annis was also credited for Philippines' quest of Nepal after she led a 2-1 come-from-behind win with Camille Wilson converting the second goal for the Philippines.
The country's best finish in the AFC Women's Asian Cup came in 2018 when the Filipinas finished 6th and has since been ranked 16th among 21 participating nations.
