UFC veteran James Vick retires from MMA following injuries sustained from last fight

UFC veteran James Vick has announced his retirement from professional mixed martial arts following a brutal loss in his last outing against Andre Fialho at XMMA this past weekend.

The 33-year-old suffered a second-round technical knockout at the hands of Fialho, his fifth consecutive defeat that started at UFC Fight Night in August 2018 against Justin Gaethje, where he was knocked out in the opening round.

His last fight, however, was his worst beating yet as he sustained serious injuries from what was his nineteenth fight as a pro.

“One of the last punches he landed I knew something was seriously wrong. I'm glad the ref stepped in because lord knows I would have been too tough and dumb to do that,” Vick wrote on Instagram.

“My orbital is broke on my right side, the fracture went all the way through to the other side causing a bilateral break plus my jaw is completely displaced so tomorrow they are finally doing surgery to fix it. It really was a perfectly placed shot.”

In the end, Vick thanked his fans for all their support throughout his career as he plans to spend more time with his family after hanging it up. He ended his MMA career with a record of 13-6.
