Azkals' current lineup built for success, says coach Dooley

Azkals coach Thomas Dooley is convinced that the team's current lineup has what it takes to take Philippine football to the next level.

After impressive wins over Bahrain and Yemen in the World Cup Qualifiers, the former United States captain feels he has formed the right mix of local and overseas-based players to advance in the qualifying rounds.

"We have a unique team with unique players for each position and they all have unbelievable skill," said Dooley.

"We’re trying to build a team and in the last two games we saw that we created the team that we need to be successful.”

The Azkals are slated to battle the more experienced Uzbekistan squad on September 8 at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bulacan.

A win over the higher ranked team will increase Azkals' chances of going to the next round of the World Cup qualifiers, and Dooley expects the team to give no less than their all in the upcoming match.

"What I’m asking from the players is to go 90 minutes with 100 percent of their skill level but always on the collective."
