Who is the Philippines' first Olympic medalist?


The Philippines marks its 100th year of participation in the Olympics this 2024.

In the Paris Olympics which will open on early Saturday (Philippine time), the country will send 22 athletes who will fight for pride and glory.

While the country wants to add a few more medals to its haul, did you know that the Philippines had its first Olympic medal back in 1928?

Teofilo Yldefonso is a swimmer who won a bronze medal in the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam and in the 1932 edition of the Summer Games in Los Angeles.

It took more than nine decades before the country won its first gold medal from weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz during the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.
