Chino Trinidad's career as sports journalist highlighted at wake


Chino Trinidad's career as an iconic sports journalist was highlighted during his wake on Monday.

Trinidad’s photos, trophies, uniforms, newspaper clippings, and even his own microphone from his decade-long career were among the items displayed at the Sanctuarium along Gregorio Araneta Avenue in Quezon City.

He was also honored with flowers from GMA Network, GMA Integrated News, and other institutions.

 

Trinidad’s family opened his wake to the public on Monday evening. Those who wish to pay their respects to the late journalist may visit from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. on July 16 to 19.

His remains will be cremated on July 20.

The veteran sports journalist passed away due to a heart attack on Saturday. He was 56 years old.

Tributes have poured in from his media colleagues, including Jessica Soho, and sports personalities like Manny Pacquiao. Basketball leagues PBA and MPBL also honored him with farewell messages.

Previously, Trinidad worked with GMA Sports as a commentator and sports analyst. He also hosted the Time Out segment on "24 Oras," and "Saksi sa Dobol B" on Super Radyo dzBB.

He also served as former commissioner of the defunct Philippine Basketball League.

In 2019, he received a special award for Meritorious Conduct at the Dangal ng Maharlika Awards.

He was recognized for "contributing to the promotion, awareness, and appreciation of arnis and Filipino martial arts."

In 2015, he was also named "Natatanging Host Pangpalakasan" at the 1st MITv Gawad Kamalayan given by Mapua Institute of Technology. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
