Pinoy Aquaman sets 10-km swim in Masbate seas
Ingemar Macarine, popular as "Pinoy Aquaman," is set to break another record on the 10-kilometer unassisted solo swim for the Bagat Dagat Festival in Masbate on June 24, Saturday.
The 47-year-old swimmer, who is also a lawyer, shared his preparations for his target new feat on GTV’s Balitanghali.
“For this swim, one month ako nag-prepare, kaya masabi ko na hindi ganun ka-prepared ang team ko ngayon pero 10 kilometer lang naman yung swim ko, kayang kaya naman siguro,” he said.
“Ang expected time ko na tapusin is between three to four hours, non-stop,” he added.
The swimming event will commence in Bugtong Island up to The Lagoon, Matayum in Cataingan, Masbate.
“Itong ginagawa natin pag solo, mag-isa lang, then unassisted I’m not allowed to touch the boat at hindi rin ako pwedeng i-touch ng another human. Lahat ng mga energy drink ko itatapon lang yon sakin, so every 30 minutes, iinom lang ako ng energy drink then ibalik agad doon sa boat and continue agad ang swim,” he explained.
Macarine said having asthma and hypertension do not hinder him from taking challenges as a swimmer.
“‘Yung bago pumunta dito sa Masbate, nagpa-check up muna ako kaya okay na ‘yung health ko pero itong maintenance ko kasi na asthma, dati pa nandyan na ever since nag-swim ako when I started ng 2013, meron na akong asthma pero safe naman. Sinasabi nga nila na maganda ‘yung dagat sa asthma,” he said.
Aside from being an athlete, Macarine also advocates for marine conservation a healthy lifestyle.
“It’s all self-discipline,” Macarine advised those who want to try open water swimming.—Sherylin Untalan/LDF, GMA Integrated News
