Philippines to host 2033 SEA Games

The Philippines is set to host the 2033 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The Olympic Council of Malaysia announced the news on Wednesday, and was confirmed by Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham Tolentino on Thursday.

Tolentino said the Philippines offered to host the biennial meet during a meeting of the SEA Games Federation Council in Phnom Penh on Wednesday.

The POC head said the POC and the SEA Games Council will present the hosting bid to Malacañang.

“After presenting the hosting bid to the council, and following its approval, the POC and the SEA Games Council will ask the Philippine government to issue a letter of support,” Tolentino said. “If the government declines, the hosting chores will be offered to another country.”

This will be the fifth time that the Philippines will host the regional event after it hosted the 1981, 1991, 2005, and 2019 editions. – RC, GMA News
