Team Philippines skates to big wins in Day 5 of SEA Games
The Philippines continued its medal run in the fifth day of official competition in the Southeast Asian Games, even as it received mixed results in team events for the day.
The home team took home a total of nine gold medals on Thursday to continue to lead the overall championship race.
Skateboarding star Margielyn Didal led the charge with a gold medal in the women's elite competition, beating out fellow Pinay Christian Means. Daniel Ledermann made it a double gold for the Philippines as he ruled the men's elite event.

Jermyn Prado started the day off on a winning note with a gold medal in the women's road event individual time trial.
Samuel German and Princess Arbilon also won a gold in the mixed beach laser relay event for modern pentathlon. German also took home the silver in the men's beach laser individual event.
Combat sports
Combat sports were a major source of medals for the Philippines for the day.
Jylyn Nicanor won the women's individual sabre event, touching off a happy dance for the Philippine fencing squad. Noelito Jose Jr. also scored a bronze in the men's individual epee.

Kiyomi Watanabe (women's 63kg) and Shugen Nakano (men's 66kg) also scored gold medals in judo, while Khrizzie Pabulayan (women's 52kg), Rena Furukawa (women's 57kg), and Keisei Nakano (men's 73kg) won bronzes.

Mark Streigl (men's combat 74kg) and Chino Tancontian (men's sport 83kg) won gold medals in sambo, while Patrick Paul Manicad (men's 82kg) and Niño Mondejar (men's 90kg) took home bronzes.
Silvers, bronzes
Ditto Nestor Dinopol won the silver medal in shooting for the mixed benchrest air rifle event. The Philippine women's team also scored a silver in the 6x6 event in underwater hockey.
The Philippines snagged a bronze in the mixed team relay event in duathlon, while Jasmine Alkhaldi, Remedy Rule, Xiandi Chua, and Nicole Oliva finished third in the women's 4X200m freestyle relay for another bronze in swimming.
The billiards duos of Carlo Biado and Johann Chua, and Warren Kiamco and Jeffrey Ignacio, also won bronzes in 9-ball doubles.
Gilas women score
The Gilas Pilipinas women's team started off its campaign on a strong note, winning 63-56 over Indonesia.
But the Philippine team lost after a marathon third set to powerhouse Thailand in the volleyball for its second straight defeat.
The Philippine women's national football team also fell short against Vietnam, 2-0, in their semifinals matchup.
Filipino fighters Rogen Ladon and Charly Suarez, meanwhile, scored wins to enter the semifinals of the boxing tournament. —JST, GMA News
