Cash incentives SEA Games medalists are entitled to receive by law

Filipino athletes continue to dominate the different competitions in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

Aside from medals, winning athletes will be receiving cash incentives, based on Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act which was enacted into law in 2015.

In individual events in the SEA Games, gold medalists are entitled to receive P300,000.00; silver medalists, P150,000.00; and bronze medalists, P60,000.00.

For competitions with less than five participants per team, the team shall receive the same cash incentives for individual medal winners but it will be divided equally among the members actually present during the competition.

For team events with five or more participants, each team member shall receive 25 percent of the cash incentives for individual medal winners.

The law also provides cash incentives for coaches who have personally trained and rendered service to the athletes or teams who win in international competitions at least six months prior to the competition.

The incentives for the coaches shall be equivalent to 50 percent of the cash incentives for gold, silver, and bronze medalists.

In case of more than one coach, the cash incentives shall be divided among themselves.

A written certification by the individual athlete or team captain for team events, duly attested by their respective national sports associations (NSAs), is needed to avail the incentives. —Amita Legaspi/JST, GMA News
