With 2 days left, PHL has 23 gold medals — 6 less than in past 2 SEA Games

Two days before the 2017 SEA Games officially ends, the Philippines has so far collected 23 gold medals — six medals short of the country's haul in the past two SEA Games in 2013 and 2015.

The country won 29 gold medals both in the 2013 and 2015 edition of the biennial multi-sport event in Myanmar and Singapore, respectively.

The medal turnout dims the chances of the Philippines to reach its target of bringing home 50 gold medals from the sporting event.

The latest batch of gold medals came courtesy of the following athletes:

  • Samuel Morrison — Taekwondo - Men’s under 74 kg kyorugi
  • Mariya Takahashi — Judo - Women’s under 70kg
  • Carlo Biado — Billiards and Snooker - Men's 9-ball Pool Singles
  • Colin John Collins Syquia — Equestrian - Individual jumping event

These victories add to the 19 gold medals earlier earned by the Philippines since the 29th SEA Games started last August 19. The SEA Games ends tomorrow, August 30.

The Philippines remains in sixth place, out of 11 countries.
