Aces' Willie Miller is MVP of PBA
Willie Miller of Alaska was honored with the Most Valuable Player award for the 33rd season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Friday night during the league's annual Awards Night at the Araneta Coliseum. Miller, who helped the Aces reached the Finals in the current Talk N Text-PBA Fiesta Conference, earned a total of 2,671 points, beating Mark Cardona of Talk n Text (1,283) and Gary David of Air 21 (1,019). Miller had 547 statistical points plus 1005 points from media votes, 218 from co-players and 600 from ABC 5 and 300 from the PBA Commissioner's office. It was a fitting gift for Miller who was celebrating his birthday Friday just like David, who were both born on July 13. Miller and David were also selected to the Mythical First with Kelly Williams of Sta. Lucia Realty, Jay Washington of Talk N Text and Dorian Pena of San Miguel Beer. Cardona was selected to the Mythical second team with teammate at Talk N Text Yancy de Ocampo,Wynne Arboleda and Arwind Santos of Air 21 and Danny Ildefonso of San Miguel Beer. Williams was chosen as Rookie of the Year with his leading 2,951 points. He bested Santos (677) and LA Tenorio of San Miguel Beer (181) for the award. David was the Most Improved Player and Sportsmanship awardee. He was included in the All-defensive team with Santos, Arboleda, Nelbert Omolon of Sta. Lucia Realty and Harvey Carey of Talk N Text. This is the second MVP award for Miller who gained his first in 2002. Miller became the seventh PBA player to win the MVP more than once. Others include William Adornado, Mon fernandez, Alvin patrmonio, Alberto Guidaben, Danilo Ildefonso and Venancio Paras. - GMANews.TV
