Despite scoring 22 points, Kiefer Ravena was unhappy with his performance in Ateneo's 88-86 defeat to La Salle on Sunday.
The leading contender for the Most Valuable Player trophy shot a measly 8-of-23 from the field, struggling with his shot in the first quarter to allow the Green Archers to take the early lead.
La Salle targeted Ravena by rotating different defenders at him, making life difficult for the Season 77 top scorer.
“I have to find ways to work with the defense that is thrown at me,” Ravena said. “It’s just me not making my shots, I have to do that talaga. It’s not an excuse for me that they played good defense.”
Ateneo rallied in the second half, with Ravena getting strong support from Chris Newsome, Nico Elorde, and Alfonso Gotladera who all scored in double digits.
“My teammates stepped up during nung huli so I take the blame for this game actually,” said Ravena, the Blue Eagles' team captain.
Ateneo managed to tie the game in the dying seconds, 81-all, after back-to-back hits from from Ravena and Ponso Gotladera. But the Green Archers made key plays down the stretch to win the game and avenge their first round defeat to the Blue Eagles. — JST, GMA News
