FTW: Another coaching reshuffle for the Petron Blaze Boosters

The appointment of Biboy Ravanes as new Petron interim head coach, with Gee Abanilla moving up to team manager, and Todd Purves taking on more responsibilities despite being a  consultant raised many questions among the FTW crew of Magoo Marjon, Mico Halili, and guest panelist radio DJ Suzy Gamboa.

Mico and Magoo broke down the coaching hierarchy. The lines are blurred as to which position comes first. Magoo's ideal set-up is head coach first, manager second, consultant third, followed by the coaching staff. However, as Suzy pointed out, Gee Abanilla was "promoted" to team manager. Magoo admitted that in Abanilla's case, it was a step up, since he's now in management.

Mico replied that coaching hierarchy depends on the team's system, but stressed that ideally, the head coach should have the top spot. In Petron's case, however, there have been many movements in the hierarchy and different roles for the positions.

Mico also brought up the Rajko Toroman-Olsen Racela coaching partnership last season where the former acted as a consultant, while the latter took the position of head coach. According to Magoo, the set-up turned out to be that Toroman and Racela were co-coaching the team.

Now that another head coach-consultant tandem is in place, will it be Toroman-Racela redux?

Magoo said, "Yung Olsen-Rajko, it was thrust upon them. Parang 'o, ayan, magtrabaho kayo ng ganyan.' Ito, parang mas may preparation.

"I think a lot of thought went into it, and we're not sure, but kinausap malamang naman din si Coach Biboy, kinausap si Coach Todd, then tiningnan if they can actually work together, and they're gonna try it now."

With the start of the Commissioner's Cup in two weeks time, fans will celebrate the return of the San Miguel Beermen. Will the franchise commemorate the 25th anniversary of their 1969 grand slam with a championship under the leadership of coaches Biboy Ravanes and Tood Purves?
