UAAP: UP vs DLSU round one preview and live-scoring

The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons and the De La Salle University Green Archers look to notch their first win of the 76th UAAP season, when they collide on Wednesday at the MOA Arena.

The Maroons lost 79-67 to the Adamson Falcons last Sunday, as they gave up 48.4 percent shooting to their foes. The UP front line also conceded a 23-12 disadvantage in offensive rebounds, as no one cracked more than seven rebounds.

Former DLSU Green Archer Sam Marata paced UP with 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including a 3-of-4 clip from downtown, but guys like Julius Wong, Mikee Reyes and Chris Ball had shaky starts, scoring just four points apiece. They'll likely need more firepower against a taller, more explosive La Salle line-up.

La Salle on the other hand had a disappointing game offensively, with a 19.2 percent clip from downtown, a 47.4 percent mark from the foul line, plus 24 turnovers, in their overtime 63-58 loss to UST. Despite those figures, they wound up losing by just five points and with Jeron Teng unavailable in the extra period due to having fouled out prior.

Teng though will really need to pick up his game, after scoring just 10 points on a 5-of-12 clip. He also missed three free throws and turned the ball over a whopping seven times, including several offensive fouls. Jason Perkins though picked up right where his summer performance left off, with 13 points, including the mid-range hit that tied the game at the end of regulation, and nine rebounds. New head coach Juno Sauler has some options available to him, and it will be interesting to see what adjustments he'll make.
