FEU midfielder Loreta Ladero was surrounded by three defenders in the box at the 60th minute. But a left flick and left-footed strike above DLSU keeper Inna Palacios sealed the Morayta-squad's bid for the UAAP women's football title. Winning 2-0 with Barbie Sobredo's successful penalty kick in the 30th minute, FEU finished their season smooth and without much trouble, Sunday at the Moro Lorenzo field in Ateneo de Manila University. "Nag-materialize naman yung paghahanda namin against La Salle," said coach Marnelli Dimzon, whose girls had difficulty piercing DLSU's defense in the eliminations. DLSU coach Hans Smit, whose team finished 2nd place for two years in a row, was upbeat despite his girl's defeat. "Reaching the finals was an achievement already, we fielded the weakest roster... I have too many rookies, " Smit told GMA News Online. "Almost every year, [DLSU] has been to the Finals, at least that gives them better motivation for next year. The UAAP also announced the special awardees for women's football. Barbie Sobredo of FEU bagged the Most Valuable Player award while teammates Barbie Sobredy, Mea Bernal, and Loreta Ladero bagged were tabbed as the season's best striker, defender, and midfielder, respectively. DLSU's Toni Nolasco won the Rookie of the Year honors while Inna Palacios was named the best goalkeeper.
