UAAP: FEU's Arvie Bringas gets two-game ban for spitting incident

After UAAP Commissioner Ato Badolato assessed a one game suspension on Far Eastern University Tamaraw Arvie Bringas, FEU announced on Thursday that they will be adding an additional one game suspension to the burly forward's plate for spitting on Ateneo's Justin Chua. FEU made the announcement on their website a day after the game, saying:

To the FEU Community, The UAAP has meted a one-game suspension on FEU Men’s Basketball player Arvie Bringas for unsportsmanlike behavior during FEU’s last game on August 29 at the MOA Arena. In addition, the FEU Athletics Department has imposed an additional one game ban on Mr. Bringas for his actions.

The spitting incident occurred during the fourth quarter of the Tamaraws' 77-64 second round loss to Ateneo. Bringas, a transferee from DLSU, now joins Ateneo center JP Erram, who was also suspended by the league. Commissioner Badolato maintained that Erram was not called for a foul that "was meant to hurt [an opposing player]." Because it was Erram's second unsportsmanlike foul this season, that meant the Blue Eagle big man drew an automatic one-game ban. Aside from Bringas and Erram, four more players were assessed warnings by the league. ADMU's Ryan Buenafe and FEU's Mac Belo, escaped suspensions but drew warnings, because their ejection was the result of incurring a technical foul after they were already given unsportsmanlike fouls prior. Also targeted by the league were Blue Eagle Greg Slaughter and Tamaraw Roger Pogoy. Slaughter made the initial bump on Bringas leading to the latter spitting on Ateneo's Justin Chua, while Pogoy planted an elbow to the back of Juami Tiongson with the game already decided. The two teams have clashed in the last two UAAP Finals series, with Ateneo sweeping both. All in all, Ateneo has now won their last eight matches against Far Eastern. - AMD, GMA News
